Our journey as a landmark venue
Originally opened in 1937 as a grand cinema and auditorium, the building that now houses Apollo has been part of the city’s cultural fabric for nearly a century. Built to host large audiences and shared experiences, it quickly became a focal point for entertainment in Wolverhampton.
1983–2007, the venue operated as Mecca Bingo, welcoming generations of local visitors before closing in 2007. In 2009–mid-2010s, it reopened as the Diamond Banqueting Suite, hosting weddings, celebrations, and large-scale events. In the late 2010s-2020, the venue became known as The Astoria, operating as a multi-purpose events space ahead of its latest transformation.
In 2025, the venue entered its latest chapter. Following extensive refurbishment, it reopened as Apollo, a modern live events and entertainment space designed for today’s audiences. Combining historic character with contemporary sound, lighting and production, firmly re-establishing itself as a key destination in the city’s nightlife and events scene.
Today, Apollo Wolverhampton is a live events venue built for big nights and standout experiences. Our programme spans music, sport, entertainment and immersive events, welcoming diverse audiences through the doors week after week.
